General Recertification Information

To apply for NCSN recertification through continuing education, 75 nursing contact hours of continuing education related to school nursing practice must be submitted for consideration (see Qualifying Continuing Education below).  The 75 hours must be related to the practice of school nursing in the areas of:

Health Appraisal;
Health Problems and Nursing Management;
Health Promotion/Disease Prevention;
Special Health Issues; and/or
Professional Issues.

Recertification may be denied for failure to meet the criteria of 75 hours, falsification or misrepresentation of continuing education information, failure to apply before the deadline, failure to verify continuing education information when proper documentation is requested, and failure to submit the recertification fee.  Recertification will be denied to any candidate who does not have a current R.N. License.

Continuing Education information must be listed on the Recertification Application and must include date, program title, continuing education provider or sponsor, and the number of hours awarded.  The contact hours must have been sponsored by an approved national accrediting agency.

All applications are subject to a potential audit where applications are randomly selected for audit.  Copies of certificates and/or transcripts will be requested, therefore, it is suggested that all continuing education material be retained for at least one year after recertification.

  Recertification applications are automatically mailed out a few months before you are due to recertify.  To get started now, you can Download a Recertification Application but please note that applications will only be accepted up to six (6) months prior to the anniversary date of certification.
